As a promotional model you could be working nearly anywhere; at a sporting event, a concert, a community festival or retail store. Models are usually between the ages of 17 and 40 but the average age is under 30. There are older models, of course, and younger ones depending on what is being promoted and what the auditions call for.

One example of a promotional model is the person you may see in your favorite retail store demonstrating a product such as jewelry cleaner. The idea is to attract an audience and hold their attention so that they can see how the product performs and encourage them to purchase it. You’ve probably seen people in your local grocery store handing out samples, some of which are cooked right there on the spot like a brand of chili, pizza or meatballs. Other promotional models might hand out samples of cheese and crackers or other finger foods.
Promotional modeling might also entail donning a costume and bringing a character to life. This might be a sports team’s mascot or a figure that represents a brand name food or a restaurant. Some models have made their characters famous; one example of this is the Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla that travels with them all over the country as well as modeling at home games. It is important to have the energy and exuberance to make the character appeal to the audience and earn their loyalty for the brand.
